How to protect your ears underwater?
Because we've all experienced a little pain or discomfort, and even if it's not severe, you still need to be careful!
But why do we feel discomfort in our ears when going underwater?
Underwater, pressure increases by 1 bar every 10 meters. Our ears (and sinuses) contain air. As we descend, external pressure increases, so the air in our ears is compressed and decreases in volume.
Result: in addition to the significant external pressure, a vacuum is created internally, and the eardrum is sucked inward and deforms → pain!
👉 But what should we do then?
Equalize! And there are several methods.
Here's the most well-known 👇
VALSALVA Maneuver: pinch your nostrils and blow through your nose briefly, without too much force. You can easily release one hand from your DeepFoil to perform the maneuver. It's easy to get the hang of it.
REMINDER: never do it on the way up, but do it as often as necessary on the way down.
